In 2022, a U.S. wholesale customer approached DR.EASY about sourcing fabric softener dryer sheets for a well-known American retail chain. The customer needed a supplier that could meet the project's product specifications and supplier requirements while keeping sourcing costs competitive.
During development, the polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric initially selected for the sheets proved difficult to handle in mass production. DR.EASY reviewed the production issues, worked with the customer to change the substrate, and arranged a revised sample for buyer approval.
The first order followed in 2023. According to the project records, sales for this dryer sheets project exceeded US$250,000 in 2024, alongside continued repeat orders.
DR.EASY first connected with the customer at the PLMA trade show in the United States in 2020. The customer reconnected with the company in 2022 to discuss a dryer sheets sourcing project for a major U.S. retail chain.
As a wholesaler, the customer needed a manufacturing partner that could deliver consistent product quality, meet the retailer's supplier requirements, and maintain a competitive overall cost. The aim was to develop dryer sheets with performance and quality aligned with the project's reference product without adding unnecessary sourcing costs.
Material selection was therefore an important part of the development process. Beyond the purchase price, the substrate needed to provide sufficient strength, remain stable during processing, and allow the softener coating to be applied consistently.
To help control material costs, the customer initially specified polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric for the dryer sheets. DR.EASY prepared samples based on the customer's requirements, and the initial sample tests passed. However, the material's limitations became apparent when production moved to a larger scale.
The production team encountered several issues with the original substrate:
The experience highlighted a practical sourcing consideration: passing initial sample tests does not always guarantee consistent performance in mass production. For OEM dryer sheets, the substrate must be suitable for both the intended product specification and the manufacturing process.
Rather than continuing with a material that was causing production difficulties, DR.EASY reviewed the issue and discussed an alternative with the customer.
With the customer's agreement, DR.EASY replaced the original PP substrate with the same type of material used in the reference brand's product. New samples were prepared, and the retail chain's buyer approved the revised sample.
The revised material gave the project a practical way forward. The process involved identifying the production issue, agreeing on a material change with the customer, and obtaining buyer approval for a new sample before proceeding.
For buyers sourcing private label dryer sheets, this case highlights why substrate selection should be evaluated alongside coating performance, processing stability, and finished-product consistency—not price alone.

In addition to resolving the material issue, the project required attention to factory audit requirements and packaging sourcing.
DR.EASY successfully passed the third-party factory audit required for the project. The audit covered anti-terrorism measures, social responsibility, and quality control.
DR.EASY selected packaging suppliers with relevant FSC and BSCI credentials to support the project's packaging requirements.
These steps addressed separate aspects of the retailer's sourcing requirements. The factory audit related to supplier qualification, while FSC and BSCI referred to the relevant credentials of packaging suppliers. They should not be interpreted as certifications of the dryer sheets themselves.
Following the material change and approval of the revised sample by the retail chain's buyer, the project moved to its first commercial order in 2023.
| Project Milestone | Recorded Result |
|---|---|
| First commercial order | 2023 |
| Initial order quantity | 16,128 boxes |
| Initial order value | Approximately US$13,000 |
| 2024 Project Sales | Over US$250,000 |
According to the project records, the products performed well after being listed, and the customer continued to place repeat orders. Sales for this dryer sheets project exceeded US$250,000 in 2024.
The results highlight the commercial value of resolving production issues and maintaining a workable product specification throughout the sourcing process. While the material adjustment addressed a key manufacturing challenge, the subsequent sales performance reflected the overall progress of the retail project.
2020 | Initial Contact
DR.EASY and the customer first connected at the PLMA trade show in the United States.
2022 | Project Development
The customer reconnected with DR.EASY to discuss dryer sheets sourcing for a U.S. retail project.
Development Stage | Material Adjustment
Production issues with the original PP substrate were reviewed. DR.EASY and the customer agreed on a material change, and the retail chain's buyer approved the revised sample.
2023 | First Commercial Order
The first order was placed for 16,128 boxes, with a recorded value of approximately US$13,000.
2024 | Repeat Orders
The customer continued placing repeat orders, and sales for the dryer sheets project exceeded US$250,000 for the year.
Holiday greetings and appreciation from our U.S. customer, reflecting long-term trust.
This case shows why material suitability matters in OEM dryer sheets manufacturing. A substrate that meets initial sample requirements may still create difficulties during mass production, making practical troubleshooting and material reassessment important parts of product development.
In this U.S. retail project, DR.EASY worked with the customer to address the original substrate issue, arrange a revised sample, and meet project-specific supplier and packaging requirements. The subsequent commercial orders and repeat business provide a documented example of how a sourcing project can progress after a production challenge is addressed.
